Starting October 31 2024: Smallpox exhibition
Visit the GRI to learn about the only human disease to have ever been eradicated
Smallpox had devastating effects on victims and produced a high mortality rate.
When Glasgow experienced its last outbreak back in March 1950 it triggered mass quarantine and vaccinations.
Following on from our popular tribute to William Macewen last year we are now dedicating a section of the museum to this crippling disease and the story of how medicine brought it to an end.
With parallels to the 2020 covid-19 pandemic, there will be lots to read and hear about.
The exhibition will be open to the public from October 31 and will run throughout November and December.
