DONNA McCARTNEY admits focusing on her art has helped her through dialysis.
Donna’s Sunshine On A Dull Day pastel drawing has formed the basis for the exhibition of the same name which is currently running at the Friends of GRI Museum.
Drawings, paintings, prints and handmade paper by other patients in the GRI’s renal dialysis unit are also on show.
It was created as part of year-long project Art in Renal Care, which has been rolled out across NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and is supported by Creative Scotland and NHS GGC.
Donna also has a badge she made included in the History of Dialysis display and believes working on her masterpiece has given her a focus while she deals with her treatment.
She said: “Dialysis is really tough on your mental state but it can be turned around and if you need a release then probably the best thing to do is art. It has all helped to boost my confidence a little bit.”
The displays – which are free to see – are intended to capture the joy and escapism when art and creativity are incorporated as part of a normal routine.
Entry to the Friends of GRI Museum is via Cathedral Precinct. Disabled access is via the main hospital entrance at Centre Block off Castle Street.
